Welshpool Dutch Spotted trade peaks at 3800gns

3800gns joint top price, Merryboro Elouise 3800gns Ty-Gwyn Elite Pre-sale Show Champion sold for 3,600gns to R Jones

Trade for Dutch Spotted females saw a top price of 3800gns realised on two occasions at Welshpool Livestock Market, last Thursday (15th December), when father and daughter Brian Davies and Louise Nash both hit that figure for their own flocks.

First at that money was Louise and husband Tom from Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, with their shearling ewe Merryboro Elousie, a Merryboro Cracker daughter out of an imported female and in-lamb to Dutch Dominator. Taking this one home was Elgan Jones, Abergele, Conwy.

At the same money was Brian Davies, again from Haverfordwest, with his shearling ewe, Ty-Gwyn Elite, a daughter of Ty-Gwyn Dynamite out of a Westpit bred female. Securing this one was Darren Mattia, Hereford, Herefordshire.

Ali Jacksons Tiptop Esprint was crowned overall champion by judge, Sara Gibbons, at the Welshpool pre-sale show. Sired by Mount Pleasant Ducati and out of homebred Tiptop Dee Dee who is a daughter of the renowned Tiptop Charlie, Esprint went on to sell for the second top price of 3,600gns to R Jones.

Then at 2000gns was Jonathan and Janet Corbett, Newent, Glos, of the Wedderburn flock with Whatmore Edelweiss, an ET-bred daughter of Glencloy Chance out of the 20,000gns imported female Candy Floss. She sold in lamb to Boyo Easy On The Eye to previous buyer Elgan Jones.

Next from the Wedderburn pen of the Corbett family and selling for 1800gns was Pentre Elsa, a Lochlad Braveheart daughter out of an imported female. Having been served by Glencloy Chance, this one joined the road back to Hereford with Darren Mattia.

Then at 1600gns was the best from Alastair Jackson, Annan, Dumfriesshire, with Tiptop Ely, a Tiptop Dipper daughter out of an imported female. Having ran with Royal Dutch, this one sold to Feniton, Devon-based C and N Lockyer.

Tom and Louise Nash were back in action leading trade for aged ewes at 2000gns, this time with Burnhope Delectable, a 2020-born imported female who was offered having been scanned in lamb to Merryboro Eyes On me, again to Darren Mattia.

At 1450gns was a 2017-born imported female from previous vendor Alastair Jackson. In-lamb to Sea The Stars, this one sold to O Watson, Ulverston, Cumbria.

Ewe lambs met a top call of 1200gns for Ty-Gwyn-Flirty from Brian Davies. By Merryboro Earl and out of the Merryboro Cracker daughter, Ty-Gwyn Ella, she found a new home with Jackie Payne, Welshpool, Powys.

Two ewe lambs then shared a 1100gns price tag, the first being Lower Argoed Fflur from Bethan Jones, Builth Wells, Powys. By Wedderburn Dancer and out of an imported female, this one caught the eye of I D Gregory, Buxton, Derbyshire.

Joining the previous one on the road back to Derbyshire with I D Gregory at the same money was Ty-Gwyn Fancy from Brian Davies. This one is an ET-bred Irthing Valley Elvis daughter out of an imported female.

Recipient females hit a top call of 1000gns for one from Alastair Jackson carrying twin embryos by Tiptop Dollar out of an imported female. Taking this one home was Gaynor McDowell, Leicester, Leicestershire.
