Friday 5th May saw us head to Melton Mowbray’s May Spring Fling for the first of the Dutch Spotted Sheep Society Spring Sales. Despite a limited number of entries forward, trade remained similar to the previous year.
Topping the sale was Mrs S Hayton, based in Tarporley, Cheshire, sold Lowfauld Cassidy with lambs at foot, Foxcote Golden Girl and Foxcote Gusto, for 1710gns. Cassidy, bred by S Jordan, Ruckcroft, came from imported bloodlines on both sides of her pedigree. Her twin lambs, Golden Girl (ewe lamb) and Gusto (ram lamb) are sired by Lochlad Draco. The trio found their new home with P Barwood, Grange Farm.
Second on the price list selling for 950gns was a shearling ewe from A Smyth, Penrith. This imported female sold to MJ Livestock, Armagh.
Also heading to Armagh was the shearling ewe Foxcote Figgy Pudding, along with her ewe lamb, Foxcote Genie, selling for 900gns. Bred by Mrs S Hayton, Figgy Pudding is sired by Challoch Colin and out of an imported female and Genie is sired by Champany Eduardo.
Another imported shearling ewe, again from A Smyth, sold for 920gns to ME & MB Crowder, Lincoln.
