Crowds go Gaga for Merryboro at Welshpool

3,200gns Merryboro Gaga from Tom and Louise Nash

Tom and Louise Nash topped the Dutch Spotted Sheep Society Spring Sale at Welshpool last week when they sold Merryboro Gaga for 3,200gns to C Joyce, Ballintleva, Westport. Gaga is a quadruplet born ewe lamb out of Merryboro Elisha and sired by the well-known imported ram, Dutch Dominator.

Brian Davies, Ty-Gwyn flock, achieved the next 3 highest prices on the day, starting with his ewe lamb, Ty-Gwyn Grace. Bred from an imported ewe (IM0464) and sired by McDermotts Fireman, Grace sold with her recipient dam for 2,000gns to I D Gregory of Slacks Dale Farm, Derbyshire.

Next for Brian was Ty-Gwyn Elsa with her lambs at foot, Ty-Gwyn Gabrielle and Ty-Gwyn Gatsby who sold together for 1,900gns. Elsa is sired by Merryboro Cracker and is out of an imported ewe (IM0683) and her lambs were sired by Irthing Valley Elvis. This trio found their new home in Powys with G E Davies & Sons.

Third on the Ty-Gwyn price list was 1,700gns Ty-Gwyn Fair Play. Purchased by D Matthews & Son, Sky Borry Green, Powys, Fair Play is out of homebred Ty-Gwyn Dolly and sired by Wedderburn Eagle.

Other leading prices included 1,600gns Merryboro Flame (Tom and Louise Nash), 1,500gns Merryboro Greek Goddess (Tom and Louise Nash), 1,200gns Highclose Dora with Highclose Gin Fozz and Highclose Ginandit (Eminson & Co) and 1,200gns Merryboro Golden Balls (Tom and Louise Nash).
