Messrs S Allen & A Shortt of Strabane, County Tyrone topped the first Society sale of the 2024 season at Swatragh on Friday evening (12th April 2024) with a striking pair of ewe lambs on a recipient ewe. Sired by 4700g ROI import, Coose Gareth, out of a Saveock Espresso Martini sired ewe, the pair, Derg Haven and Derg Harmony found their new home with K Mcvey selling for 2400g.
Second top price of the evening sale was achieved by another pair of ewe lambs on a recipient ewe, this time from Kilcoo, Co Down based P & O Grant of Craigdoo flock. Craigdoo Hopeful and Hype, sired by Merryboro Grafter out of Kilroot Electric were knocked down to J Bugden at 2000g.
Other leading prices include two single ewe lambs on recipient ewes from Emma Allen, Diamond flock of Loughgall, Co Armagh. Both sired by Johnstown Gunner, Diamond Hannah out of Desert of Beech Hay sold to R Millen and Diamond Honey Dew out of Glencloy Chelsie sold to J Bugden, both for 1600g.
Lambs on recipient ewes continued to make the top prices with a pair of ewe lambs from Mr C J Johnston of Johnstown flock, Fivemiletown, Co Tyrone selling for 1500g to L Stubbs and a single ewe lamb from Liam Campbell of Ballymena, Co Antrim selling for 1200g to I Lynn.
Of the pedigree ewes with lambs at foot the top price was achieved by import Drumhirk Ella from J Johnston of Broadwater flock, Aghalee, Co Antrim with a pair of Coose Giant sired lambs at foot which sold to M & J King for 1250g. Second top price in the section was achieved by a single ram lamb sired by Merryboro Gamechanger with his dam, Glencloy Casey, from Liam Campbell which sold for 1000g to Messrs S Allen & A Shortt.
Dry Hoggets topped twice at 800g, both times with lots from S & P Fee of Tullynagowan, Tempo, Co Fermanagh. Full ET sisters, Tullynagowan Gigi and Tullynagowan Glee, both sired by Carlaustan Extrovert out of Diamond Ember sold to M Workman and D Shiels respectively. Other leading prices include Glencloy Get Over It which sold for 500g to M Steenson.
