Milltown tops multibreed May Fair Sale at Carlisle

Once again Dutch Spotted sheep demonstrated their value by topping the May Fair multibreed sale at Harrison and Hetherington’s Borderway Mart last Friday (24th May 2024). Competing against Blue Texel, Beltex, Badger Face, Zwartble and Valais Black Nose the Dutch Spotted top prices was almost double that of the other breeds.

Leading the trade and fresh from their success at Balmoral Show was Tommy & Zoe Jackson of Milltown flock, Saintfield, Co Down whose weaned ram lamb, Milltown Hulk which is full brother to their RUAS Reserve Champion, sold for 4000gns to Bethany Chew & Ben Whitham of Lode Pit flock.

Milltown animals achieved two of the sales other leading prices with weaned ewe lambs, Milltown Helen Go Easy selling for 2500gns to J Budgen of Southampton and Milltown Hot Cake selling for 1000gns to Charlotte Riggs of Himmon Dutch Spotted.

A very well put together ewe lamb, Hazelberry Honey ET, with her recipient ewe from Callum Dodd of Hazelberry Flock, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire, matched the second top price selling for 2500gns to Martin Kilroe of Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

A show ready shearling ewe, Tiptip Geneva, from Ali Jackson of Tiptop Flock, Cummertrees, Dumfriesshire, took joint third top price at 1800gns with shearling ewe, Coxhill Gina, from D & C Steen, of Moffat, Dumfriesshire. Geneva sold to Illona Thompson of Waterside flock, Yoevil, Somerset and Gina sold to J Hall of Sutton Manor, Derbyshire.

Other leading prices included another shearling ewe from D & C Steen which sold for 1600gns, again to J Hall and a pair of ewe lambs with their recipient dam from A Beattie & L Kennedy, Carlaustan flock which sold or 1100gns to G Scott from Dalry, Ayrshire.

Graded lots also saw keen demand with a grade 1 ewe with twin pure ewe lambs at foot from Nick Brown of Irthing Valley flock, Irthington, Carlilse selling for 1100gns to MW Bousfield of Bampton, Penrith.
