Welshpool Society Inlamb Show and Sale Report

Welshpool Dutch Spotted Society Sale Report

The Dutch Spotted Society Sale at Welshpool was a tremendous success, with a fantastic turnout of in-lamb ewes, shearlings, and ewe lambs. The quality on display was exceptional, making for an exciting and competitive day.

The showing classes were judged by local Beltex breeder and butcher Tristan Davis, who had the challenging task of selecting winners from the strong entries. Tristan’s full comments are awaited, but it was clear the standard of sheep impressed all in attendance.

Aged Ewes

The first prize in the Aged Ewes class went to Brian Davies with Ty-Gwyn Fantasia. This outstanding ewe went on to sell for 2200 guineas, demonstrating her excellent quality. Second place was awarded to Saint Clair Faas 4, who later sold for 1000 guineas. Brian Davies also secured third place with Ty-Gwyn Faye, an in-lamb ewe who sold for 1250 guineas.

Shearling Ewes

The Shearling Ewes class boasted a large and competitive field. Topping the class was Whatmore Gellybean from the Whatmore flock. This bold shearling ewe not only took first place but also claimed the title of Overall Breed Champion, selling for an impressive 4200 guineas.

Second place was awarded to Whatmore Gondola, another shearling ewe from the same flock, who sold for 2300 guineas. Third place went to an imported ewe, Amelia from the Saint Clair flock, who made 800 guineas.

Ewe Lambs

In the Ewe Lambs class, first place went to Louise Nash with her striking ewe lamb Merryboro Hot Chick. This exceptional lamb also earned the title of Reserve Overall Champion and later sold for 3000 guineas.

Second place was taken by Ty-Gwyn Hillary, who made 1100 guineas, while third place went to Ty-Gwyn Honey.

Sale Highlights and Atmosphere

The overall consensus from the day was incredibly positive, with the sale attracting numerous new buyers and society members. The vibrant ring atmosphere was a testament to the growing interest in Dutch Spotted sheep, as new faces joined the community to invest in this exciting breed.

It was a day to remember, with exceptional livestock, enthusiastic buyers, and a bright future for the breed.

We look forward to seeing these outstanding sheep make their mark in flocks across the UK!
