Shearling Success at this year's Exeter Society Sale!

Friday 15th August 2025

Buyers and sellers from all over the South West descended on Kivells Exeter for the much-anticipated second Society Sale. The atmosphere was lively, with both seasoned and new breeders gathering at the sale ring. Amid this excitement, one particular sheep captured the attention of many there.

With a strong number of sheep entered into the sale, it was the shearling ram from Messrs Haste, Shebb Hensley, who not only was Judge Ross Edwards Champion of the day, but also topped the market at 1500gns. Tiptop Echo sires this powerful tup and is out of a homebred ewe, Shebb Elaine. This ram had been making moves in the show ring and continued that streak on the day, selling to the Moortown Flock.

The reserve champion was tapped out to a flashy Ewe Lamb from C Plummer of the Westwood Flock. Westwood Ivy is sired by Johnstown Evo, who has produced many winning progeny over the years. She sold for 1000gns to Messrs Haste, Shebb Flock.

The high prices didn't stop with the Champion; the second-best price of the day went to C Plummer with a Shearling Ewe that was all style and presence. As soon as she entered the sales ring, the bidding began and didn't stop until she was knocked down at 1300gns.

Ewe lambs were in high demand, and it was one from C Lockyer that bidders certainly couldn’t miss out on. Crayola Iggle Piggle, who was a standout performer in previous local shows was sold for an impressive 1200gns.

Next to hit the high figures was a shearling ewe, placed 1st in the pre-sale show, and also bred by Messrs Haste, Shebb Honour was an impressively strong shearling and was sold to Judge Ross Edwards for 1050gns.

The Ram Lamb trade was topped by MJ&LJ Robertson, with Lakeside Iceman, whose grand dam is the widely known 20,000gns Candy Floss. He was snapped up at 1000gns.

Despite the challenges posed by bluetongue, breeders showcased an impressive turnout of strong stock, highlighting the quality available in the South West. The success of this sale has solidified its status as a pivotal date in next year’s pedigree sales calendar.
