Judge - Jack Simpson, Back Tor
Buyers and sellers from all over the North West flocked to J36 Kendal to attend this year's Autumn Sheep Fair, which featured a Dutch Spotted Sheep Society Show and Sale.
The show kicked off early with a strong selection of sheep brought forward for Judge, Jack Simpson to look through. As the judging began, it became clear that one particular breeder stood out, ultimately taking both Overall and Reserve Champion.
Middlemoor Indiana, a sharp and flashy ewe lamb from J Stead, was crowned Breed Champion. Sired by Milltown Gold Digger and out of Barquhill Fiona, it was no wonder she caught the judges' eye. When it was her turn through the ring, there was a strong appetite for the winner, and she sold to the Judge for 1400gns.
The second-highest price of the day also went to J Stead with Middlemoor Hogwarts, who won the Shearling Ewe class earlier in the day. It didn’t take long for the bids to start flooding in, but she was sold to P Heap for 1050gns.
Third to hit 1000gns was a Shearling Ewe, which was part of the Lowerhouse Reduction Sale. Lowerhouse Huntress, who was by Glencloy Emmerald, certainly got the bidders talking and sold again to P Heap for 1000gns.
Despite a smaller number of Ram Lambs being entered for the sale, there was still strong demand for them, especially for the Reserve Breed Champion, Middlemoor Icon. Bred again by J Stead, he was knocked down at 850gns and taken home by Turndale LTD.
Shearling Rams attracted considerable interest on the day, and it was the 2nd place winner Grayrigg Foot Himeros from J Dixon who also took a top spot when he sold for 850gns to D Johnston.
