Shearling Rams In Demand at Thainstone

Overall Champion and Top Price Sheep - Tardoes Highland Fling

Tuesday 23rd September

Judge - Alistair McKerrow

The last of the Society Summer Sales landed at Thainstone Mart, and there was another strong number of sheep entered for this sale again.

Judge Alistair McKerrow had the challenging task of selecting the day's Champion, ultimately awarding the title to a standout Shearling Ram from the Tardoes Flock.

Tardoes Highland Fling, a lengthy tup who oozed presence and power, was bred by Mr M & Mrs J Simpson. Sired by Glencloy Gunner and out of a homebred ewe, Tardoes Dahlia Maria, this ram was one not to miss, and he took the top price of the day at 1200gns and was sold to W & N Lawrence.

Two lots hit 700gns when they entered the ring. The first was Islawood Helix, a Shearling Ram from E Chaplin, sired by Beech Hay Extreme, which was sold to W A Stephen, and the other was a Shearling Ewe from Mr M & Mrs J Simpson, who was again sired by Glencloy Gunner and sold to I & I Brown.

Aged Ewes were sought after by buyers on the day, and the Reserve Champion, again from Mr M & Mrs J Simpson, reached 500gns. Tardoes Graceful Eve, who is sired by Challoch Bassett and out of an import ewe, was taken home by Firm of Upper Woodside.

Lambs kept the excitement going throughout the sale, with a lively trade and plenty of competition in the ring. Ram Lambs achieved top prices of 500gns, while Ewe Lambs also drew significant attention from buyers, reaching up to 400gns.
