Spruit Hyacinth Tops Melton Mowbray Winter Warmers Multi-Breed Sale

Spruit Hyacinth, Top Priced Sheep at 3000gns Overall Champion and Reserve Champion with Judge Adam Mitchell

Saturday 22nd November

Judge - Adam Mitchell

This year's in-lamb show and sale at Melton Mowbray proved to be a vibrant, competitive affair, with strong demand for Dutch Spotted sheep who took the top price for the whole day reigning supreme over Texels, Suffolks and Charolais who were also there for the multi-breed sale. The event was judged by Adam Mitchell, who stepped in at short notice.

The show brought forward a number of sheep expected to attract strong bidding; however, there was one Shearling Ewe who took the top price of the whole day, and she belonged to G Stanford of Spruit Flock. Spruit Hyacinth, who was scanned in-lamb with twins to Spruit I’m a Cracker, who was the 2nd place Ram Lamb at the 2025 National Show held at the Great Yorkshire Show. There was keen interest in her from not only around the ring but online as well, finally being knocked down at 3000gns and found her new home with L Kennedy and A Beattie, a Father Daughter duo from Stirling.

The Champion of the day went to an Aged Ewe from S Ghiorgita. Lochlad Erynn was scanned twins to Bendis Iggy, who was sired by Diamond Fireball. A strong ewe who stood out for Judge Adam and was sold for 1000gns to R & H Williams.

Reserve Champion was awarded to a Shearling Ewe brought forward by T Mawer, who was sold for 1100gns. Kelby Hannah, who was also scanned twins to Whatmore Gravy, she too found her new home with R & H Williams.

The top priced Ewe Lamb of the day was secured again by R & H Williams for 1200gns. Shambles Invisible certainly wasn’t invisible to the bidders as soon as she entered the ring.

The sale saw 100% clearance and the most encouraging aspect of the day was seeing new members buying their first Dutch Spotted Sheep to start their flocks. With a large proportion of bidding taking place online, the sale demonstrated how easy it is to participate in Society sales from outside your region.
