Welshpool Sale – Wednesday 1st September
The Welshpool sale last Wednesday of Dutch Spotted Sheep on behalf of the UK Society continued the positive trend for the breed when Alistair Jackson’s Tiptop flock based near Annan, Dumfriesshire secured the pre-sale show championship with an imported shearling gimmer. The gimmer, named Daniela, sold for the days top price of 6500gns to young breeder Olwen Roberts for her Cynin flock at Llangynin, Saint Clears. Aswell as the top price from this pen, another imported gimmer, Daleyza, sold for 2500gns to M&J Evans, Beulah, Llanwrtyd Wells.
ARP&DR Wilson, Cnwch flock, sold the top priced ewe lamb, Cnwch Evangeline, an April born Merryboro Dewi daughter for 2600gns to ID Gregory, Slacksdale Farm, near Buxton. This ewe lamb was a full sister to their leading ewe lamb sold for 2200gns at Worcester in August.
Regular consignors to the sale, Tom & Louise Nash, then followed with their substitute lot, Merryboro Expect to Fly, sired by their homebred ram, Merryboro Cracker, she sold for 2400gns to MI&J Bushby, Totnes for their newly formed Leighbridge flock.
Leading the rams was a ram lamb from Bethan Jones, Lower Argoed Elite, sired by Wedderburn Dancer, with an imported dam, he sold for 3800gns to Cannon Hall Farm, Cawthorne, near Barnsley.
Earlier in the sale, Cannon Hall also invested in one of Cath Difford’s ewe lambs from her Hill Top flock, based near Nelson, Mid-Glamorgan, this was a Turbo Bont Caernarfon daughter, Hill Top Esme which sold for 2200gns.
Bethan Jones’ next ram lamb in the ring, Lower Argoed Extra, twin to the first, sold for 1500gns to TH&P Bolt, Tiverton, Devon.
Shearling rams from W&S Workman, Beacons Daan, bred by AE&TC Evans, sold for 2000gns again to Cannon Hall Farms, this was a Lochlad Braveheart son out of an imported ewe. Followed by an 1800gns call for Merryboro Drake, an Apache son from Tom Nash to Ellis Hodgson for his Rowe flock based at Danescourt, Cardiff.
Graded females from Drew Guthrie who had travelled down from Selkirk sold to 650gns for a grade 3 ewe lamb, to A Baker, Llanidloes, Powys, followed by Sarah Greig, who sold her grade 3 ewe lamb for 600gns to Karen Griffiths, Berriew, Welshpool.
