Record prices at the Dutch Spotted Society First Sale in Northern Ireland

Beatties Livestock Centre in Omagh was the venue for the Dutch Spotted Society’s first sale in NI. For many breeders this was their first appearance selling Dutch Spotted Sheep as there has been a phenomenal growth recently in the popularity of the breed. Judge for the sale was Alan Smyth, originally from the Ballymena area but now residing in Penrith. N.I. breeders were looking forward to having their own sale with a little intrepidation, but trade proved to be similar to that at the main Society Sales in GB with some excellent sheep meeting a super trade.

At the pre-sale show the judge worked his way through the classes efficiently and results are:

In the sale ring the reserve champion ewe lamb, Glencloy Erika ET, realised a new N. Ireland record price for Dutch Spotted selling at 7000 gns. This lamb was out of a ewe imported from Netherlands in 2019 and sired by Challoch Bearskin, a ram who has featured prominently in the breed over the past two years.

The top male price was for the second prize ram lamb, Diamond Excalibur, offered by Emma Allen, out of her imported ewe Bella who has been a consistent breeder with a string of high-priced progeny produced over the last few years and sired by Drumhirk Decider who has also been proving himself as the sire of many high-priced progeny.
