Great Yorkshire and National Show 2024

It is Encore once more at The Great Yorkshire Show

Following rain of biblical proportions on the first day of the show, the sun (nearly!)
started shining as 100 entries came into the ring on Wednesday 10th July for our
National Show. Our Judge was Society Chairman, Mr Edward Adamson of the
Kilroot Flock, Carrickfergus, County Antrim.

First up was the aged tup class with 3 forward. The nod went to Merryboro Electric,
owned by Miss B Chew of the Lode Pit Flock. This tup is by Boris (import) and out of
Anwen (import). Lode Pit had a successful week across the board which culminated
in their son Oliver winning an exceptionally strong Young Handlers class on the
Thursday with a Dutch Spotted Lamb.

The quality was strong in the shearling tup class with 12 forward. Fresh from his
success as Male Champion and Reserve Overall at Three Counties, Lochlad
General Comrade was victorious – owned and bred by A&P Parker from Lockerbie,
he was then sold to the Spruit Flock. He is by Spot on Fire Cracker and out of
Lochlad Ellie. 2nd in this class was Hazelberry Gee Wizz, owned by Jack Whiteford.
Jack is looking forward to using him as his stock tup this time.

The ram lamb class had 22 entries forward and it was Oliver Watson who won with
C-View Henners who is by Diamond Gilbert and out of an imported ewe and Oliver
will be preparing him for sale over the coming weeks. This cracking lamb then went
on to be Male Champion. 2nd and taking Reserve Male Champion was Nick Brown’s
homebred Irthing Valley He’s The Boss who is by Tank and out of Irthing Valley
Fancy That. He’s The Boss won and was Reserve Male Champion at The Royal
Highland Show and will be another that will soon be heading for Carlisle.

Moving onto the females. In the Aged Ewe class there were 7 forward. This was won
by Ali Jackson’s Tiptop Encore. This ewe has swept the board so far this year, being
Interbreed Champion at Cumberland and Breed Champion at the Royal Highland
Show. Encore went on to be crowned our overall Champion once more. She is a
fabulous ewe and an absolute credit to Ali’s breeding, being by Tiptop Diablo.
Showing for the first time at this show, Chloe Harding took the 2nd spot with Dustland
Elsbeth.

In the Shearling Ewe class there were 28 forward. Fresh from her success as top
shearling at The Royal Highland, the winner was ARP & DR Wilson’s Cnwch Gin
Campari. This formidable ewe is by the successful Cnwch Emilio and out of Beech
Hay Ceili. Oliver Watson was 2nd with Milltown Good Girl who was purchased from
the Carlisle Sale in December having stood overall champion there. Jack Simpson
was 3rd with Back Tor Graham’s Girl, who was also 3rd at this show last year as a ewe
lamb. Millie Simpson, Jack’s niece was crowned overall Young Handler Champion
with Jack’s Back Tor Hollywood.
The Ewe Lamb class was, as anticipated, hotly contested with 28 forward. The
eventual winner was another from ARP & DR Wilson - Cnwch HD Crème de la

Crème. Truly cream of the crop, this ewe lamb is by Whatmore Forty Winx and out of
Cnwch Fleur-de-lys. Crème de la Crème’s grand-dam was Cnwch Esperanza who
was Reserve Female Champion as a ewe lamb at this show in 2021. Crème de la
Crème went on to scoop the reserve Female Champion and Reserve Overall titles.
2nd in this class was Gemma Stanford and Adam Mitchell’s Spruit Honeybear who is
by Cnwch General Lee and out of Coxhill Estelle. The Spruit Flock took 2 of the top 5
placings in this class. 3rd was Robbie Jackson’s Rigghead Hottie who is out of last
year’s triple crown winner Barquhill Faith.

After the showing classes we were delighted to hold a social for our Members. With
plenty of refreshments on offer, there was a great atmosphere which lasted well into
the evening. We would like to thank all Members who exhibited at our National Show
and helped showcase our breed to a packed ringside.
