Worcester Summer Selection Show and Sale - July 13 2024

Ty-Gwyn Does it Again

The Worcester Summer Selection Show and Sale, held by McCartneys at Worcester Livestock Market, marked the inaugural sale of the Society’s ‘early breeder’s sales’ to aim at those breeders wanting to tup early for a January lambing. There were 120 entries from 20 flocks ranging from Members residing in Cornwall to Dumfriesshire. We were delighted to welcome Mr Edward Adamson from County Antrim, our Society Chairman, to judge the pre-sale show.

The Female Championship and Overall Championship was awarded to Mr Brian Davies, from Pembrokeshire, with his ewe lamb Ty-Gwyn Haze who topped the ewe lamb trade and sold for 2400gns to Ben Parker, from the Luccombe flock.

The Male Championship and Reserve Overall went to the shearling tup, Wedderburn Gregor from JDR & JL Corbett. Gregor, who was 2nd at The Royal Three Counties Show 2024, topped the trade for shearling tups and sold for 1500gns to C&N Lockyer, joining the Crayola flock in Devon.

Reserve Male Champion went to another from the Ty-Gwyn flock, Ty-Gwyn High & Mighty, topping the day’s tup lamb trade, selling for 2000gns to MJ & JL Robertson, Lakeside flock, in Gloucestershire. Reserve Female went to Darren Mattia’s shearling ewe How Caple Gloria.

The top priced aged tup went to Mr C Lockyer’s successfully shown stock tup Merryboro Fandango, selling for 850gns to GB Thomas, Swansea. The top priced aged ewe went to JDR & JL Corbett’s Wedderburn Fanny, sired by Tiptop Calvin Klein, she sold for 1100gns to H Williams, Carmarthenshire, closely followed by 1000gns Ben Parker’s Tiptop Frizzy, selling to LJ Steen of the Coxhill flock, Dumfriesshire.

The top priced shearling ewe went to JDR & JL Corbett’s Wedderburn Golden Girl, who topped the day’s strong female trade selling for 2500gns to R Bett, Lincolnshire. Golden Girl is by the renowned Glencloy Chance who has sired offspring to 18000gns. This was closely followed by LJ Steen’s 2400gns Coxhill Garnet, who headed to L Martin in Dorset.
