Robbie Jackson takes top spot once more at the Royal Highland Show

Another massive entry at the Royal Highland Show for the breed saw the ring full of the very best Scotland had to offer.  Despite the cloudy skies overhead, judge Will Workman of the Celtic flock based near Brecon, South Wales saw sunshine in his Supreme Champion, the 1^st prize shearling ewe and Female Champion, exhibited by young Robbie Jackson, Rigghead flock, based near Annan and shared in partnership with his Dad, Ali Jackson of the renowned Tiptop flock. 

The shearling ewe, Merryboro Iris Moon Glow, bred by Tom and Louise Nash, was purchased at the Hazelberry Flock reduction sale last August at Lockerbie, where they were guest consignors, for 3,000gns.  Sired by McDermotts Fireman and out of the homebred Merryboro Glamorous, she was tapped out first in the strongest class of the day and remained at the top for the duration of the judging.

The judge praised the standard of the sheep on show, and was delighted with his Champion, being correct in every way, very mobile and in perfect condition. Will thoroughly enjoyed the experience and thanked the Dutch Spotted Sheep Society for nominating him to judge, certainly a highlight in his judging career.

Reserve Supreme Champion was secured by the 1^st prize Ram Lamb, Barquhill Jeremy from regular exhibitors, Mark and Robbie McCornick.  This eye-catching lamb, sired by Boyo Idol and out of the homebred Barquhill Gigi is destined for the Society sale at Carlisle on 31 July.

The 8-hour trek from Llandrindod Wells for Dale & Robbie Wilson certainly paid off by being placed 1^st in the hotly contested ewe lamb class and Reserve Female Champion.  The February born, Cnwch Je Ne Sais Quois, is by the homebred Cnwch Emilio, and out of the imported ewe, Emerald.  The Wilson’s also took 1^st in the Aged Ram class, with their homebred Cnwch Hot Rooster.

Young breeder, Jack Whiteford, made his Highland Show debut in the Dutch Spotted classes and successfully took the top spot in the shearling ram class followed by Reserve Male Champion.  The ram, Milltown Ivor Williams was purchased for 1,200gns at the Society sale held at Lockerbie last July, from Northern Ireland breeder, Tommy Jackson.  This shapely ram was sired by Drumard Harrison and out of Milltown Hot Pants.

A homebred ewe from Lara Reid’s Elite flock was the winner in the Aged Ewe class, this 2024-born ewe, is sired by Hazelberry Ghost and out of the homebred Elite Frisky.
